Leia Costuming
Clothing a Star Wars Obsession: 2004 Events
ShadowCon VIII, Memphis, TN—January 3, 2004
Costume(s) worn: Padme at Home (AOTC)

The con itself wasn't much of a con, at least compared to DragonCon. It was mostly just an SCA event, with the addition of the Southern Outpost and me. I did find swords I wanted although I didn't buy either of them—one had the Rebel Alliance symbol on the pommel, the other had a copper Celtic-style guard and pommel that looked very close to Eowyn's—and Bob kept trying to convince me that I needed a hip scarf because of all the bellydancers running around. We ended up spending most of the day hanging out in the hotel rooms, which was fun in and of itself. Our group did well at the costume contest, which Skip as Vader helped judge: I won best Sci-Fi costume, those still in armor won Best Group (as the others walked in, Chad played the Imperial March on guitar while dressed as Fett; I really wish I had gotten digital video of that). I left at midnight, so I missed all the bellydancing fun, although I've heard the stories and seen the pictures.

"A Jedi Journey" at Fort Sam, San Antonio, TX—August 6, 2004
Costume(s) worn: Senatorial Leia

For a few hours, we—the Rebel Legion, 501st, and the Star Wars Society of San Antonio—hung out with kids on base at Ft. Sam on the last day of their summer day camp. Not only was this the first time I trooped since ShadowCon, I finally got to meet people from some of the groups I'm in or message boards I visit. Yay. And I have a Han Solo to goof off with! I think my favorite picture is the one where Pete and I took turns lecturing each other as Han and Leia. Silly but fun. Can't wait to hang out with the group again.
