Clothing a Star Wars Obsession: Pillowcase Skirt
For the skirt, I used New Look 6789, View C. I really like this pattern; it's very straightfoward, three skirt pieces and a waistband.

I had to be careful when laying out the pattern pieces. When I first laid the front pattern piece down on the pillowcase, Luke's lightsaber was aimed straight up the center. Rather than be suggestive, I repositioned it so that it's aimed more at my hip. The pillowcase was not quite wide enough for the entire pattern piece to fit on it, so there was about half an inch difference between the pattern and the fabric at the bottom edge. When laying out the pattern pieces for the back of the skirt, I had to be careful as well. As it is now, C-3PO will eternally point at the zipper pull (or my butt, depending on how you think about it).

Because the muslin pillowcase was so old—there were a few tiny holes—I flatlined it with some pale blue broadcloth. I cut the lining pieces to the exact pattern size, rather than shorter to match the pillowcase pieces. The pattern allows for a 1.5" inch hem, so it doesn't matter that they don't match up on the bottom.

Instead of using a regular zipper like the pattern calls for, I used an invisible zipper because I'm much better at inserting them. I left that for last; next time I use this pattern, I'll do it their way and see if those instructions are easier than most regular zipper instructions.
