Clothing a Star Wars Obsession: Moulin Rouge: Satine's Grey Suit: Jacket
The base for the jacket is New Look 6564, a pattern for a long-sleeved, cropped jacket. I used the D/E pattern pieces as a guide. Fabric is a lovely grey garbadine I found at Wal-Mart for $4/yd.

Since this is just a quickly-made stage costume, I left out the lining. (No time to fuss with it, and it's not like anyone would notice, anyway.) I initially cut out all of the pattern pieces as they were, except for one of the front pieces. Instead of cutting two exactly the same, I cut out one normally for the left side, and traced mostly around the pattern pieces for the right side. After sewing the main body pieces together, I tried it on and eyeballed where to cut the overlap into a point. I also trimmed rougly four inches off the bottom of the jacket to that it ends about the same spot down the rib cage as Satine's.

For the collar, I free-handed it. The short edge is approximately the distance around the jacket neckline from the point on each side where the collar points away. The length of the points I estimated based on reference images, and the long edge connects it all together. The outer (black) side of the collar is taffeta left over from my Smoldering Temptress bow, and the underside of the collar is garbadine.

To bind all the edges, I used grey bias tape, which I turned under and stitched in place by hand at the hotel. The button I picked up at JoAnn's. It's merely decorative; the jacket closes by a hook underneath.
