Clothing a Star Wars Obsession: Moulin Rose: Bodice
I used forest green satin left over from my brother's 14th century jester to cut out the bodice pieces. There wasn't enough to cut out straps, so I decided to go strapless. For the lining and interlining, I used white muslin because I already had it on hand and didn't feel like making a trip to the store to by a matching color. Of course, this was a mistake; you can see bits of the white lining when I'm wearing it.

The bodice is actually very easy to assmeble, with maybe the exception of working with the boning. This was my first time to use boning, and I sometimes found it tricky to sew in place, as you can tell by some of my "drunken" stiching lines. The other part that takes some time is sewing the lining and outer pieces together at the top edge. The bodice points can be a little fussy.

I discovered, upon pinning it to my dress form, that it was way too large for me. As a result, the back two panels completely overlap, instead of just meet. To keep it closed, I used a series of hooks and eyes at one panel edge and five snaps along the other. It took three attempts at placement before I found one that worked well. Next time I use this pattern, I'm making the bodice a size smaller than called for.

The final touch is black beaded trim around the top edge, and tracing all the inside edges with narrow black ribbon. The ribbon's mostly there to disguise the bits of white lining that try to show through. I would have liked green beaded trim, but couldn't find any that I liked in the right colors so black it was.
