Clothing a Star Wars Obsession: X-2 Rogue: T-Shirt
To make my template, I enlarged one of the promo photos of Rogue standing on the Drakes' front porch and cropped the design to fit an 8.5 x 11" sheet of paper. (I also made a negative image of the design to help with picking out the seperate sections.) I then traced it onto tracing paper, figured out how close it came to my proportions, and enlarged it to 129%. Once the design was enlarged, I used dressmaker's tracing paper and a mechanical pencil to transfer it to a plain white t-shirt.

For the colors, I chose Folk Art paint in Cayman Blue and Licorice. (Had I had a reference image with me, I would have picked out a little less intense shade of blue. Oh, well.) The blue got painted on first, because it's easier to paint black over blue than blue over black to correct any mistakes. Next came the outlines in black, followed by the spaces inbetween the blue and the edges, lastly by any minor touch ups I had. Cutting the neck out was a lot easier—and more fun—than the painting was. For the most part, the cut neckline is the same as on the original shirt, at least in front, since I traced that on, too. I had to guess what the back looked like.

All in all, I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out. Unless you get very close to the shirt you can't tell where the design could still be touched up a little more. Not too worried about that. If anyone gets that close, we have a more important problem than how 100% accurate the shirt is.
