For the bodice, I used view A of Simplicty 5457, the 1880s gown from their "Historic Costumes" line, with a few modifications. The most obvious modifications are the absence of the drape & other trims, and leaving off the peplum in back. I also substituted a 12" invisible zipper inserted upside-down in place of the seperating zipper, lengthened the whole thing by two inches, and adjusted the fit at the center back to give that wasp waist illusion. Adjusting the back meant I had to take out the two pieces of boning next to that seam; so I still had the boning support there, I attached them to the (wide) allowance on either side of the zipper after it was inserted.
My favorite thing about putting the bodice together was finally learning how to bind seams using bias tapethat's how the armscyes are finished in the pattern directions and also how I finished off the bodice bottom, since that is supposed to be finished off during the peplum steps.
